Superstar boxer Canelo Alvarez retained his unified super middleweight championship with a unanimous-decision win against Edgar Berlanga at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Alvarez floored Berlanga with a left hook, his signature, in Round 3 and won with scores of 117-110, 118-109 and 118-109, so it wasn’t even close. ESPN scored the shutout at 120-107.
The victory was the fifth consecutive decision win for Alvarez, who last scored a knockout win against Caleb Plant in November 2021. The bout was also the fourth fight in a row in which Alvarez landed a knockdown.
“Now what are they gonna say?” Alvarez said during his post-fight interview with media per ESPN. “I fight younger fighters. They say I fight older fighters. They always talk. I’m the best fighter in the world.”
Actions speak louder than words, although Alvarez’s words are crystal clear. The crowd was reported at a sold-out 20,312 at T-Mobile Area. Our thanks to photographer extraordinaire Tom Donoghue for his photos from fight night.
